The history of the Latin cathedral in Lviv cannot be understood apart from the history of the Polish nation in these lands. In the walls of this temple, in its architecture and decor, indelible traces were left by days of glory and defeat, sublime and dramatic events in which, from the Middle Ages to the present day, the Cathedral faithfully accompanies the Homeland, the City and the people.
This Gothic three-nave building, founded by King Casimir the Great, was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Its huge edifice, 67 m long and 23 m wide, is located in the very heart of Lviv.
Sacraments hold a significant place in the religious practices of the Catholic Church. These sacred rituals are important for believers as they serve as visible signs of God’s grace and love. The Catholic Church recognizes seven sacraments: baptism, confirmation, the Eucharist, reconciliation (also known as confession or penance), anointing of the sick, holy orders, and matrimony.
